The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry is a nonprofit organization dedicated to alleviating hunger by providing food assistance to individuals and families throughout the Santa Clarita Valley. For over 40 years, the Pantry has served as a critical resource for those facing food insecurity, offering consistent access to nutritious food in a welcoming and compassionate environment.

Through strong partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, the Pantry distributes food to thousands of individuals each month. Our work is driven by a commitment to dignity, service, and community, ensuring that no one in the Santa Clarita Valley goes hungry.

Role Purpose

The Operations & Floor Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Pantry’s facility, food inventory, and distribution operations. This role ensures that all food handling, storage, and distribution practices meet applicable health and safety standards while maintaining an organized and welcoming environment for clients and volunteers. This position is critical to ensure that the Pantry can consistently and efficiently serve the community.

Core Responsibilities:

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local food safety regulations.
  • Implement inventory rotation practices, including First In, First Out (FIFO).
  • Monitor refrigeration, freezer temperatures, and storage conditions.

Inventory & Warehouse Management

  • Manage food inventory intake, storage, and distribution processes.
  • Coordinate deliveries and donations from grocery partners and food banks.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and stock levels.

Distribution Operations

  • Oversee pantry floor operations during distribution hours.
  • Ensure efficient client flow and a respectful, organized service environment.
  • Support volunteers assisting with sorting and food distribution.

Facility Management

  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of the facility.
  • Oversee waste disposal, recycling, and pest control.
  • Coordinate maintenance and ensure all equipment is in working order.

Volunteer Supervision (Operational)

  • Train volunteers on food handling, sorting procedures, and safety standards.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision and direction during pantry operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification in logistics, warehouse operations, or related field is a plus.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in warehouse operations, food distribution, logistics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inventory management practices, including receiving, storage, and distribution of goods.
  • Familiarity with basic food safety standards and handling procedures; experience working in a food pantry, grocery, or food service environment preferred.
  • Experience supervising or directing teams, including volunteers or entry-level staff.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, physically active environment while maintaining organization and attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing operational needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and clients in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds, and regularly maneuver carts, pallets, and other equipment throughout the facility.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods during shifts.

Approx. Hours: Mon. 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM; Tues. 7:30 AM – 1:00 PM; 7:30 AM – 1:00 PM Thurs. 7:30 AM – 1:00 PM; Sat. 7:30 AM – 1:00 PM
